The ambitious £200m scheme has
been drawn up to transform a prime 12 acre site adjacent to Huddersfield
Town Centre bounded by Chapel
Hill, Manchester Road and The River Colne.
The site is primarily occupied by Sellers Engineering and includes Kirklees
Council premises at West Riding House together with Grey House Yard. In addition
existing Listed Buildings fronting Chapel Hill, including the Rat and Ratched
Public House, will be incorporated into the scheme.
The overall Master Plan envisages around
750,000 sq ft of prestigious development which will provide high quality
employment, residential and leisure accommodation close to
the facilities of Huddersfield Town Centre. It is anticipated that up to 2000
jobs will be generated by the scheme.
The Waterfront Quarter will occupy almost one mile of frontage to the
River Colne and Huddersfield Narrow Canal at the gateway to the Colne Valley.
This showpiece project is of regional and national significance.
